Harmony is the road to health!

Oriental medicine believes that in order to maintain health we must live in harmony with nature and maintain harmony within ourselves.

Harmony with Nature

We live in nature and take from it what we require to live. We are influenced directly or indirectly, by the movements and changes of the environment, and as such we will have a physiological or pathological response to our environment.

Harmony of the Body

Oriental medicine believes that different systems in the body influence one another and are closely interrelated. The aim of Oriental medicine is to regain harmony through the bodily system itself with the assistance of carefully composed medical prescriptions. There are many potential dangers and side-effects of artificial chemicals which are increasingly used for every illness and which are given more and more in isolation from the patient as a whole person.

The Life force to achieve harmony

Unlike western orthodox medicine which describes physiological processes in great detail, the Oriental system of medicine describes how the life force inhabits the body. It explains the way energy flows in the body and the factors which disrupt it, the way to diagnose these disruptions, and the way to restore internal balance.

TCM; an alternative health perspective

The Oriental system of medicine which is also termed Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), consists mainly of Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. Both treatments concentrate on regulating the flow of energy in the body in order to gain a natural internal balance.

Acupuncture

The Chinese believe that acupuncture works by stimulating the flow of energy and blood, and therefore the body's healing responses, by the insertion of thin, fine needles at various points on the body.

The actions of each point and combinations of points, and their effectiveness in treating different diseases, have been learnt through observation. In recent years these actions have been systematically refined and verified by modern scientific research methods.

Do Chinese Herbs have side effects?

The most commonly used herbs which are taken internally have no side effects at all. A small number of herbs have toxic qualities, but these have been banned in this country and can only be obtained in China.

In Britain today, most people use Western medicine at the first sign of any illness, and they tend to change the treatment quickly if it is ineffective or has side effects. The antibiotics, steroids, painkillers and tranquillisers used for the treatment of many conditions can cause extreme health problems and can have severe side effects, particularly if used over a long period of time.

An Oriental herbal practitioner does not need to use toxic substances but instead concentrates on regulating and balancing the human body by combining herbs to achieve powerful results. If you go to a qualified herbal practitioner, you should feel safe in the knowledge that no herbs will be used which have toxic side effects.
